Before chlorinated pools and saltwater pools became the norm in our society, people swam in the oceans, lakes, rivers, and ponds.  As our culture developed, some people found the consistency and sterility of swimming in a chlorine or saltwater pool desirable, and they were willing to buy and work with the acidic chemicals necessary to maintain the perceived safe and disinfected water.

A natural swim pond or pool is chemical free and filters water through biological means. The regeneration zones can be vibrant water gardens or blend with the surrounding environment through the careful selection of aquatic plants that help with the cleaning of the pool water. A living ecosystem of beneficial microorganisms purifies the water.
