PondWorks focuses on designing, building, and maintaining the finest water features.  We take pride in our commitment to providing a quality product and the best service possible.

Since 1993 PondWorks, has been working with customers to provide the best solution for each project.  We can assist with both residential and commercial projects that are large or small.

Past

PondWorks, or at least its origins, began around 1993 when Brian Buchholtz expanded his interest in water gardening and began installing small garden ponds as a part-time job while attending college.  As time went on, the business continued to grow but was still seasonal as Brian completed his studies at Philadelphia University where he graduated with a degree in architecture.  After his graduation, PondWorks continued to grow both in size and scope building on experience and staying committed to providing quality installation and care.

Present

The PondWorks staff believes that its broad experience with different types of water features as well as the understanding of the design and construction process sets us apart.  PondWorks currently employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff that provides regular services to nearly 300 businesses and residences in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, and Maryland.  By fostering relationships with design professionals and industry-related installers, PondWorks has been able to continually expand its scope of design and construction work.  While Garden and Koi pond construction and maintenance still constitute a large portion of our efforts, PondWorks is currently involved with many other types of aquatic related design and construction projects.  Some of these projects include natural swimming pools, traditional pools, custom spas, wetland mitigation, rainwater collection, reflecting pools, and fountains.

Future

As time progresses, PondWorks will continue to evolve with the ever-changing construction and design industries while maintaining its ideals of Quality Design, Installation, and Service. We'll strive to continue improving ourselves and to provide the methods, materials, equipment, and services that our customers and clients expect at an affordable price.

Algae exists in most water bodies and survives, and can even thrive, over winter months. As spring approaches and the air & water temperatures start to warm up, algae growth can increase greatly. The most common algae types we see are Filamentous and Planktonic algae. Filamentous algae are green and string-like that grow from the bottom of the pond surface. These tendrils then release and can float to the surface forming mats. Most Filamentous algae is best treated with a copper based algaecide and can be prevented by installing an ionizer that continuously releases copper ions into the water to kill any algae present and prevent growth from happening at all. If you’ve ever noticed that your pond has a green tint to it or the ‘pea soup’ look, then you’re likely familiar with Planktonic algae. Planktonic algae are best treated by UV sterilizers which use ultraviolet light to sterilize the water and help kill the algae. A mechanical filter will then remove the dead algae from the water for both Filamentous and Planktonic algae. Otherwise, it will drop to the bottom and become part of the muck layer which builds up over time. If you are having algae issues or are experiencing an algae bloom feel free to give us a call, we can help! #pond #algae #spring #winter #algaefacts #filamentous #planktonic #water #pondworks #treatment

Is it cold enough for you? Is it the day with the least sunshine for the whole year (Happy Winter Solstice)? Is there possibly a big storm blowing in before a holiday weekend? Yes, yes, and yes. But at least the days start getting a little sunnier starting tomorrow. Don't forget to check on your water feature from time to time this winter to make sure freeze / thaw has not moved any rocks or caused any issues with any un-winterized plumbing lines.
Take a moment and enjoy this beautiful scene we observed this week. October in Pennsylvania is always unique and worthy of appreciating.

If your pond needs maintenance or winterization, it's not too late to get on our schedule for service.

We work outside almost every day, we strive to be inspired by nature with our installations, and we try to strike a natural balance while maintaining all kinds of water features. But, ... ...when "nature" climbs out of a organic waste bag in the back of our van without us knowing, and proceeds to slither it's way up to the cab in order to find some warmth one chilly day last week, we were a "bit surprised". (Fear not, our legless friend was freed and returned to nature promptly upon discovery.) If there are any snake fans out there that would like to chime in with a species ID, feel free. β€œIt is always a pleasure dealing with everyone at PondWorks!” - Linda

β€œ...if it involves water in any way, PondWorks is our 'go-to' company without question or parallel. ...PondWorks is very reliable and trustworthy in terms of honoring the schedule and keeping the job moving at a good pace. ...their follow-up -- should there be a problem or questions -- is prompt and professional. ..we are confident that you will be exceedingly happy with their professionalism and service during the project. ..you will be very satisfied with the end product, and enjoy it for many years.” - Mark E.

β€œI just wanted to thank you and your team for your excellent work. The filtration system that you designed and built for our pond has exceeded all expectations. The filtration system is quiet, compact, and out of sight, and best of all has made maintenance a breeze.” - Rob

β€œOur pond plans presented Brian with quite a challenge. We had chosen a spot nestled in an existing grove of Rhodendrons and a precious old Red Maple. The Pondworks team came in and dug the pond, laid the pipes for the bottom drains and skimmers, and laid positioned the liner without so much as a broken branch... The real craftsmanship came with the rock work. Large and indigenous rocks were artfully placed around the pond to complete the natural setting. Thank you Brian, for building this beautiful pond...” - Wendy & Jim O.
